Ascites

Fluid effusion from the peritoneal cavity or an accumulation of fluid in the peritoneal cavity. This liquid is usually citrine yellow. It can be colored green by bile, red by blood (hemorrhagic ascites) or take on a milky appearance (milky ascites), gelatinous (gelatinous ascites) or contain emulsified fat (chyliform ascites).

Possible causes: liver cirrhosis, peritoneal tuberculosis, digestive or genital cancers. Kidney sarcoma, pericarditis of tuberculous origin.
