Capillary Fragility
Lesion or defect of small cutaneous vessels: capillaries, arterioles, venules and superficial venous plexus.
“Blue” at the slightest shock: ecchymosis of the subcutaneous network.
Ecchymosis: Spot either purple, black, brown or yellowish which results from the infiltration of the cellular tissue by a variable quantity of blood.
Hematoma: this is an encysted collection of blood.
Petechia: variety of skin hemorrhage, characterized by purplish red spots.
After middle age, the susceptibility to bruising increases markedly and may indicate a bleeding disorder.
The birth control pill, certain diuretics, corticosteroids may accentuate bruising.
Aspirin, ibuprofen, etc. are criticized for accentuating certain hematoma phenomena.
