Osteoporosis - Osteomalacia

Osteoporosis: rarefaction of the protein structure of the bone. Results in pain in the thoracolumbar spine, impotence, bone deformations and porosity of the bones which become fragile and break easily due to structural deterioration of the bone tissue (vertebrae, upper ends of the femur, wrists, etc.). Radiologically, we generally notice an exaggerated bone transparency.

Osteomalacia: generalized skeletal demineralization by insufficiency of calcium phosphorus fixation on the protein structure of the bone or osteoid tissue. These are always mineral, vitamin (D3), protein deficiencies or ovarian or testicular insufficiency.

Rrickets is infantile osteomalacia.

Risk factor: estrogen and progesterone deficiency due to surgical removal of the ovaries or early menopause, family history, small bones and build small, insufficient assimilation of calcium and vitamin. D, insufficient physical activity, sedentary lifestyle, prolonged bed rest, prolonged use of laxatives, hypotensives, diuretics, tranquilizers, corticosteroid therapy, abuse of animal proteins.

Bone loss frequently begins around the age of 50 in both men and women.
