Sjogren's Syndrome

Synonym: Dry syndrome.

Progressive cessation of secretion from the lacrimal, salivary, digestive, tracheal or vaginal glands. This results in generalized dryness of the mucous membranes, with keratitis, conjunctivitis, rhinitis, dry pharyngitis, hypertrophy then atrophy of the salivary glands. The course is chronic, often associated with rheumatoid arthritis.

Often affects subjects already suffering from rheumatoid arthritis or another autoimmune disease and especially women, between 40 and 60 years old.
