Arterial Atheroma - Atherosclerosis

Chronic lesion of the arteries, characterized by the formation in the inner tunic of the vessels, of yellowish plaques of lipid deposit (cholesterol). Poor cerebral, cardiac or leg irrigation. The lesions develop predilection at the level of curvatures and arterial bifurcations where the flow of blood is turbulent.

The term atherosclerosis often replaces the old word atheroma.
